A short friendly stop at the family Domaine of Féry & son.
Organic Farming
Jean Lous Féry explains: "Here in Burgundy, we believe in organic viticulture, respecting and preserving the Burgundy heritage. It is essential for us to protect our soil and the health of our employees who work in the fields. This is why we made the choice of organic winemaking. In our opinion, this natural type of farming produces wines that are more pure, lower in sulphur (which causes the headaches), and healthier for the consumer. The change has also worked commercially for the estate. We now produce a wide selection of interesting, gourmet and elegant wines. truly representative of the great wines of Burgundy. "

The Wines
Guided by Michaël and Jean Louis Féry, I have the pure pleasure of discovering their winery, their history and their wine. In this regard, the wine that really retained my attention: Le Clos de Magny. Indeed, although only a relatively lowly appellation, and very well priced, it is a fine wine, elegant, with nice notes of cherries and cassis. Also a hint of pepper with a good length, highlighted by discreet tannins. It is the favourite wine of Jean-Louis Féry. This is a village wine from a plot located in the commune of Corgoloin. Jean Lous says this wine never ceases to surprise everyone, indeed the magazine Le Figaro has give it a gold star, and has already written an article to praise it. Their description is simple but exact "one of the best of its class in Burgundy", the wine obtained a score of 15.5 / 20. During this Figaro tasting, it was placed at the same level as wines from Clos des Lambrays.
The History
This 14 hectare estate is full of history, with five generations of visionaries. It now extends from the Côtes de Nuits to the Côtes Chalonnaise.
The story begins with their ancestors in the nineteenth century, smallholder farmers, who worked hard with small plots of land. The culture of the time included vegetables and of course vineyards. Pretty soon, Louis, son of Pierre Jacob, started trading in berries. (Blackcurrant, blackberry, raspberry).
One day, Louis's daily routine was upset (in a good sense I assure you). It was a sunny morning, when a Molinard salesman burst into the estate. He was interested in blackcurrant berries, indeed he was looking for this berry because it was the last component for Chanel N * 5. Thus the estate, which already supplied all the distillers of the region, began to supply the prestigious Chanel house.
In 1959, it was the children of Louis who took on the baton of running the Estate, and at the same time, were involved in creating the Group of Young Professionals of Vine and Wine. (GJPVV) in order to help and advise the new generations. In 1961, their work bore fruit because official recognition was obtained for A.O.C Burgundy Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Burgundy Hautes Côtes de Nuits.
In 1980, Marcelle and Jean Féry created their winery under their own label. Eight years later, Jean Louis Féry takes the reins, and gives a new impetus to the Domaine. Even now, when Frederic Féry is in command, Jean Louis is not far off and still has a multitude of projects for the future.
Notice to connoisseurs and amateurs. Here is the list of their wines spread over the different villages.
